Where no entrance exam is needed
Entrance exams exist to ration scarce seats. Where seats are not scarce, or where the institution fills them itself, there is usually no exam — and no secret about it either.

None of this is a loophole. It is the published admission policy of a large part of Indian higher education, and you can read it on the institution's own site before you apply to anything.
Where an entrance exam is not optional
Some routes are exam-gated by design and no arrangement changes that:
- Seats allotted through state or central counselling against a merit rank
- Professional courses where a national test is the statutory qualifying route
- Programmes at institutes whose whole selection is the exam — the IIMs' flagship MBA and CAT being the clearest example
If a course you want sits in this list, the honest options are to take the exam, or to look at a course that does not require it. There is no third path, and anyone offering one is describing something that does not exist.
How to confirm before you apply
- Open the institution's own admissions page — not an aggregator's.
- Find the eligibility clause for your exact course and intake year.
- Note whether it names a test, or only a qualifying-marks threshold.
- If it names a test, check whether it is compulsory or one of several accepted routes.
- Save or print the page. Policies change between sessions and you want the version you applied under.
Five minutes here settles a question that people otherwise spend months and significant money on.

Can I do an MBA without an entrance exam?
For a large number of programmes, yes — many private universities, distance and online MBAs, and autonomous institutes admit on qualifying marks or profile review. For the IIM flagship MBA and other exam-gated programmes, no.
Is a degree without an entrance exam valued less?
The certificate does not record how you were admitted. What carries weight is the institution and what you did there. Selectivity affects the peer group and the recruiter habit around a campus, which is a real difference — but it is a difference in the institution, not in the qualification.
Which courses always require an entrance exam?
